Anybody wanting to see the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's wrestling team this season will have to come early or wait until well after the new year is welcomed in.

The Mocs will open the season with meets on Nov. 14 against Liberty and Cumberland University but won't be home again until their Southern Conference opener against The Citadel on Jan. 30.

They may be sending a lot of postcards in between.

"What we're trying to do is get our guys the best opportunities to get to the NCAA tournament and then to the (awards) podium at the end of the tournament," Mocs coach Heath Eslinger said.

Including the doubleheader against Liberty and Cumberland and the match against The Citadel, UTC has five home meets. The others are on Feb. 13 against Davidson and on Feb. 20 versus VMI.

"With 15 dates, five are going to be home meets, five away meets and then five are going to be tournament dates," Eslinger said. "We knew coming in last year that it would take four or five years to get the schedules balanced."

While UTC has no big-name visitors this season, it bodes well for future schedules because Missouri, Virginia Tech and Central Michigan owe the Mocs a visit and Iowa will after this season.

"We were trying to schedule another home meet when Iowa called," Eslinger said. "Are you going to turn down a chance to wrestle one of the best teams in the country?"

That Iowa meet is scheduled for Nov. 26.

The Mocs will wrestle at Stanford on Dec. 17 and two days later in the Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev.

"It's no more expensive to go out there and get another match, and it was a good match for us to get," Eslinger said. "Stanford is a program on the rise and a program that's headed in the right direction. It was a good match to pick up right before a big tournament."

UTC will wrestle Kent State at Salem, Va., the day before Virginia Tech's Hokie Open on Nov. 7. The Mocs will be in the ACC Challenge at Chapel Hill, N.C., on Nov. 21 and the Southern Scuffle at Greensboro, N.C., on Dec. 29-30.

Both of their biggest conference meets - against UNC Greensboro and Appalachian State - are on the road Feb. 5 and 6.

The Southern Conference tournament is March 5 at Appalachian State.
