Candace Cain had 26 points and five assists as Tennessee Wesleyan College from NAIA Division II defeated NAIA D-I member Martin Methodist 100-83 in women's basketball Saturday in Athens, Tenn.
Cain made four of seven 3-point tries for the Lady Bulldogs (6-2), who got 17 points from Heather Gibson, 14 apiece from Amy Jo Castor and Brittany Steen and eight assists from Leah Frazier. Vee Young and Jessy Christopher scored 21 and 19 points for the Pulaski team (6-3).
* Union College (w) 91, Tennessee Temple 77: At Barbourville, Ky., Cherelle James and Kanetra Gonzalez scored 20 and 17 points for the visitors, but they fell to 1-9 as Wendi Messer and Capri Savage scored 23 and 19 points and Courtney Thomas had 17 points and nine rebounds for Union (8-3).
* Lee (w) 68, William Carey 56: At Hattiesburg, Miss., Brooke McKinnon and Hollie German scored 21 and 17 points and Karly Miller had 13 rebounds in the Lady Flames' win. Kally Eldridge and McKinnon had five and four assists and three steals apiece.
* William Carey 65, Lee 57: The Flames outshot their hosts 46.5 to 36.2 percent but made 25 turnovers in falling to 8-2. Larriques Cunningham had 16 points and four assists.
* Oglethorpe (w) 79, Sewanee 54: At Atlanta, Sarah Giles had 26 points and 12 rebounds in the Stormy Petrels' SCAC win. For Sewanee (1-5, 0-1), Dani Kabbes scored 18 points, Claire Elliott added 10 and Logan Miller made four steals. The Sewanee men lost 96-50 at Oglethorpe and are 3-2; Lewis Affronti led the Tigers with 13 points. Matt Cowan had 22 points and eight rebounds and Anvil Nelson had 18 points and 12 rebounds in Wednesday's 69-56 win at Free Will Baptist Bible.
* Cleveland State (w) 59, Volunteer State 55: At Cleveland, Kierra Johnson had 23 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Mariah Lawrence scored 13 points and Takeya Day had eight rebounds, five assists and four steals as the nationally eighth-ranked Lady Cougars improved to 10-0, 6-0 in the TCCAA.
* Volunteer State 88, Cleveland State 79: Tim Erisite scored 22 points and Lashane Purdy and Ricky Beard added 17 and 16 for the Gallatin team, which outrebounded the Cougars 51-36. Keith Johnson had 21 points in defeat.
* Chattanooga State (w) 58, Motlow State 47: At Chatt State, the Lady Tigers (8-1) kept pace with Cleveland State in the TCCAA as Hiydaayah Williams had 21 points and seven rebounds and Kim Manning scored 11 points.
* Motlow State 72, Chattanooga State 69: The Bucks won behind Darryn Frazier's 24 points. Alex Dean and Telvin James had 19 and 16 for the Tigers, who got 11 rebounds and eight blocked shots from Philip Jurick.
