UTC 1-1 in UNF tourney

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team rebounded from a 26-24, 25-20, 17-25, 21-25, 15-10 loss to host North Florida by defeating Illinois-Chicago 25-10, 20-25, 25-21, 25-17 in the UNF Invitational tournament Friday.

Jennifer Kuroski had 19 kills against UIC (3-4) and 10 against UNF, and Courtney Barnes had 10 in each match and was in on 10 blocks for the day for UTC (2-7). Barnes also served five aces in the victory, when Meagan Ernd added nine kills and Ellie Kuhn and Christina Teter had eight apiece. Tess Kosycarz had 51 assists and 10 digs and Paula Passmore made 20 digs.

Kosycarz and Bailee Chastain had 21 and 17 assists and Passmore made 15 digs against UNF.

At Cleveland, the NAIA's fourth-ranked team emphatically avenged its only home loss of last season as Lee whipped Savannah College of Art and Design 25-15, 25-15, 25-12 in the Lee Invitational.

Kayla Carlisle had 12 kills with a .733 hitting percentage for the Lady Flames (8-0), while Christa Hutchison added 10 kills and Stephanie Todd had seven, pus eight digs. Arlene Ferreira had six aces and 10 digs with six kills, and Gretchen Higdon and Kelsey Leffew had 16 assists each.

At Bristol, Va., Bryan won 25-13, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16 in its AAC opener at Virginia Intermont. Alison Young had 16 kills and Lauren Pratt added 11 on .450 hitting for the Lady Lions (7-5), and Carolyn Evans had 10 kills and six block assists. Ashley Sours had four aces and three blocks.

Lady Mocs fall 1-0

At Boiling Springs, N.C., Meagan Reynolds scored off a corner kick 53 seconds into the game and Gardner-Webb made that hold up for a 1-0 win over the UTC women's soccer team Friday night. UTC led 14-13 in shots.

Tennessee Wesleyan (w) 2, Trevecca Nazarene 1: At Athens, Kimberly Key scored late in the first half from an Ashlie Reagan assist and Britten Fandrich put the Lady Bulldogs ahead 2-0 at 74:05 from an Abby Fannin assist, as TWC outshot the visitors 14-10 and got six assists from Chealsey Baxter. Heather Halstead scored for Trevecca at 75:40.

Two Mocs alive

At Greensboro, N.C., UTC sophomore Roberto Vieira and freshman Trent Cobb each won two matches Friday to advance to semifinals today in the UNC Greensboro Fall Invitational tennis tournament. Each is a No. 3 seed, Vieira in the A1 draw and Cobb in A4.

Vieira has a doubles match with partner Chris Smith this morning.
