Just like top prospects Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, former McCallie and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga quarterback B.J. Coleman won't be throwing the ball during the NFL combine.
Unfortunately for Coleman, it's not by choice, as it is for Luck and "RGIII." Coleman revealed during his session with the media Friday at the combine in Indianapolis that he had suffered a fractured pinky finger on his throwing (right) hand while training.
The hand is in a cast and the injury will keep him out of Sunday's throwing exercises at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"I was training and working drills and it was just a freak thing. My feet came out from under me and all my weight came down on my pinky," said Coleman, according to a BuffaloBills.com report."It just happened to get injured. You do things all your life and it's the first time the bone breaks."
He said the injury occurred two weeks ago and his hand will be in a cast for another week.
Coleman, who did not respond to Times Free Press requests for comment, said he will try to do some of the running events Sunday.
"I would have loved to have been able to throw the football here, no doubt," he told The Tennessean. "But there are things that are going to come your way [that] you have to handle positively and be able to get back on that horse and go. The biggest thing for me is to get my hand better and be able to throw well on my pro day."
UTC's pro day was scheduled for March 22, but that has been moved to April 2 to give Coleman time to return to form following the injury.
