Baseball Vols rally, lose in 10th to ULM

KNOXVILLE -- The University of Tennessee baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie Louisiana-Monroe in Saturday's game, but the visiting Warhawks won anyway with a two-run 10th, 8-6.

Jeremy Sy singled, stole second base and scored on Joey Rapp's one-out single in the top of the 10th, and Rapp wound up scoring on the Volunteers' first error since last Sunday. ULM reliever Wil Browning hit Chris Pierce with a pitch to begin the bottom of the inning but then got three outs in a row to end the game.

Rapp was 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs for the Warhawks (10-6), and Logan Fiasco also had three RBIs. Will Maddux and Zach Osborne at the top of Tennessee's lineup each had two hits and scored twice, and Chris Fritts drove in two runs.

Down 6-3 in the middle of the eighth, the Vols got a leadoff single by Osborne and a one-out double by Drew Steckenridge, before Fritts bounced an RBI grounder to shortstop that became a two-run play on a bad throw to first. Fritts went to third on a Browning balk and scored on Jared Allen's sacrifice fly.
