The Southern Conference women's basketball tournament bracket was set Monday night after 10 of the league's 11 teams closed our their regular seasons. The only team with the day off was the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
After wrapping up the regular-season championship last Monday, UTC (26-3, 19-1) finished its season Saturday with a 24-point win at Appalachian State. The Lady Mocs are not just the top seed in the tournament, which begins Friday at UNC Asheville's Kimmel Arena, but they'll be a very well-rested top seed.
UTC had to endure some tough stretches during the season, including playing nine games in February, but the schedule at the end of the season was quite favorable, Lady Mocs coach Wes Moore said after the ASU game.
The Lady Mocs, along with the rest of the top five seeds, play Saturday. UTC will face the winner of No. 8 Georgia Southern versus No. 9 Western Carolina, who meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday. During the regular season UTC swept both teams, beating GSU's Eagles by a combined 49 points and the Catamounts by a combined 79.
UTC, which returns to practice today after two days off, has won the SoCon tournament eight times, the last coming in 2010.
