Seniors Alex Hudson and Trey Stavrum got extra attention at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling banquet Tuesday evening at the DoubleTree Hotel downtown.
Coach Heath Eslinger poked a little fun at both but provided a lot of praise, and Hudson received the top award of the night, the Jim Morgan Team MVP honor. The two-time qualifier for NCAA national tournaments went 30-9 at 157 pounds in his last season as a Moc.
Junior Nick Soto followed up his third Southern Conference championship and a 33-11 record with the Ethan Reeve Workhorse Award, and junior 165-pound North Carolina transfer Corey Mock -- the SoCon tournament's most outstanding wrestler -- got the "most improved" honor.
Scottie Boykin and Michael Pongracz shared the award of freshman of the year. Boykin went 21-14 at 197 pounds and was all-conference, and Pongracz was 22-11 in time at both 133 and 141 pounds.
Sophomore John Lampe got the Pat Murphy Team Academic Award. An all-conference 184-pounder, he has a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale after five UTC semesters.
