Baseball Vols sweep Mizzou

After losing its SEC season opener 5-2 on Friday at Missouri, 17th-ranked Tennessee swept Saturday's doubleheader in Columbia, Mo., by scores of 5-1 and 4-1.

Nick Senzel and Vincent Jackson each was 2-for-4 and batted in two runs in Saturday's first game for Tennessee (17-2, 2-1), and Christian Stewart and Senzel each scored twice.

Andy Cox relieved Hunter Martin with two outs in the fourth inning and pitched through the seventh, giving up three hits and no runs in improving to 3-0 for the season. After Kyle Serrano walked the first two Missouri batters in the eight, Trevor Bettencourt came in and set the Tigers down for two innings without allowing a baserunner.

Jake Ivory was 2-for-3 with the RBI for Missouri (9-9, 1-2) in the opener, and Dylan Kelly had the Tigers' RBI in the series finale. Tennessee broke a 1-all tie with a three-run eighth, making the winner out of Drake Owenby (2-0) with two hits in his three-plus innings. Andrew Lee started and allowed only three hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Scott Price, Senzel and Nathan Maggio each was 2-for-4 with an RBI in that game for Tennessee.

Eric Anderson allowed five hits and struck out eight Vols in his six innings for Missouri, but the Vols got to third reliever Keaton Steele in the eighth when No. 9 batter Taylor Smart led off with a double to right center and Price tripled down the right-field line and scored on a one-out passed ball. Stewart walked with two outs, advanced to second on a balk and scored on a Senzel single.
