Austin Donaldson granted release from letter of intent to play basketball for UTC

Austin Donaldson has asked for and been granted his release from his national letter of intent to play basketball for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's basketball program and new head coach Matt McCall.

Donaldson, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Jonesboro, Ga., averaged 8.9 points, 3.6 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the two-time Class AAAA state champions. At the time of his signing, he was considered a steal by former coach Will Wade.

His stock rose dramatically during the season. It's believed that Georgia Tech and Georgia are among the programs that have already inquired about point guard.

Donaldson said Tuesday night that he has gotten out of his National Letter of Intent, but that the Mocs are still in the mix.

The Mocs currently have three high school seniors signed for next season: center Trey Kalina, guard/forward LaMarcus Lee and forward ZaQwaun Matthews. Guard Peyton Woods committed to the program Tuesday and plans to sign Friday.
