KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee wide receiver Von Pearson has been identified as a suspect in an ongoing investigation into an alleged rape that was reported Friday morning in Knoxville.

According to a release from the Knoxville Police Department, the alleged incident reportedly occurred at the University Walk Apartments on Forest Avenue not far from Tennessee's campus.

During an initial investigation, according to the KPD, investigators took statements from the alleged victim and several witnesses and alerted the Sexual Assault Center.

The investigation is "in the early stages and ongoing," according to the KPD.

No charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

Pearson has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities, Tennessee associate athletic director Jimmy Stanton confirmed in a text message.

Pearson caught 38 passes for 393 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games last season, his first with the Vols after transferring from Feather River College in California. He was slated to be a senior this season. Tennessee's Orange and White Game is Saturday at 4 p.m. at Neyland Stadium.

In November, two Tennessee players, A.J. Johnson and Michael Williams, were suspended amid an investigations into an alleged rape and sexual assault, and both were indicted by a grand jury on two counts of rape in February. After both players pleaded innocent at arraignment, that trial date was set for August.
