File on rape claim against Von Pearson tells varied stories

Contradictory stories fill the investigative file on the case of a rape accusation against University of Tennessee football player Von Pearson.

The investigation, opened in April, ended with the conclusion that "no sustainable prosecution exists," according to Charme Allen, Knox County district attorney general, who announced that decision Aug. 5. Pearson has since been reinstated to the football team.

The investigative file, obtained by the News Sentinel on Wednesday through a public records request, contains more than 100 pages of documents, including a text conversation spanning 12 hours from before and after the incident and into the next day, along with the negative results of a rape kit.
