Arkansas, Tennessee share high hopes for 2015 college football season
New Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey on Tuesday announced the hiring of William King as associate commissioner for legal affairs and compliance.
According to a release, King will head the league's existing governance and compliance staff, serve as an adviser for institutions on NCAA regulatory matters, maintain and improve upon conference-wide efforts to fulfill SEC and NCAA compliance expectations, provide advice and counsel to the commissioner and serve as the league's inaugural internal legal counsel.
"I am excited William will be joining the SEC office as associate commissioner for legal affairs and compliance," Sankey said. "He has established himself as a national leader on NCAA enforcement and compliance matters, and he has unique experience in working with universities, coaches and student-athletes on infractions and eligibility cases. William also has enjoyed a distinguished legal career, which will serve the SEC well as we look to our future."
King received his bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee in 1986 and earned his law degree from Vanderbilt in 1989. He studied under current Vanderbilt chancellor Nick Zeppos.
"I am very excited and honored to be joining the SEC," King said. "Greg and I have worked closely together in the past, and I look forward to being a part of his team and working to fulfill his vision for the conference and its members."
King has represented universities and coaches before the NCAA Committee on Infractions regularly over the past decade. He was active in the NCAA cases involving former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton in 2010, former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in 2013 and former Georgia running back Todd Gurley last year.
Mullaney to Alabama
Former Oregon State receiver Richard Mullaney announced via Twitter on Tuesday that he was transferring to Alabama. The 6-foot-3, 209-pounder from Thousand Oaks, Calif., is a graduate student who would be a fifth-year senior this fall.
Mullaney had 52 receptions for 788 yards in 2013 but missed most of last season with an elbow injury.
