The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder from South Rowan High in China Grove is rated by 247Sports.com as a two-star prospect and the No. 11 punter nationally. He committed to Virginia Tech two weeks ago but decommitted from the Hokies on Wednesday.
Georgia is back to having 16 commitments for its 2016 signing class, including six who have enrolled early. The Bulldogs are No. 8 in the 247Sports team rankings, trailing LSU, Ohio State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Florida State, Florida and Alabama.
Long, who averaged 46.5 yards per punt as a senior and played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, is the first punter to receive a scholarship from Georgia since Cartersville High's Collin Barber in 2012.
