JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Georgia senior right tackle Greg Pyke was stunned to hear it.

In Saturday's 24-10 loss to Florida that had concluded several minutes earlier at Ever Bank Field, the Gators held the Bulldogs to 19 rushes for 21 yards.

"What?" Pyke said. "Is that what we did today?"

The Bulldogs struggled from the start to get anything going on the ground against the Gators, with Nick Chubb finishing with nine carries for 20 yards. Sony Michel had three carries for 2 yards, while third-string tailback Brian Herrien had two carries for 4 yards.

Two sacks of Jacob Eason resulted in a loss of 16 yards that factored into Georgia's hideous rushing total.

"We practice physical and we run the ball physical in practice," Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said, "but we struggled to get movement in the games, and by movement, I mean displacing their defensive linemen. If you see movement, you usually have successful runs.

"Chubb hit a couple in there for 6 or 7 yards, but we didn't get anything consistently, and that's a disappointing factor."

This was the second consecutive game in which the Bulldogs failed to net 100 rushing yards, with Vanderbilt having held them to 75 on 35 carries two weeks earlier. Georgia's total against the Gators and its 1.1 yards per carry were easily season lows.

"You don't think that coming into a game," Chubb said. "You want to come out here and do well and execute, but it is what it is now. Their guys came out and played hard. They were very physical and fast up front, and they did a lot of things well.

"We weren't able to get it going."

Chubb had two 7-yard gains Saturday, with his first one getting the Bulldogs to the Florida 2-yard line on Georgia's first possession. Pyke then was flagged for a false start, however, and the Bulldogs wound up settling for a 25-yard Rodrigo Blankenship and a 3-0 lead.

The second Chubb 7-yarder occurred on the first play of the fourth quarter and with the Gators in command at 21-10.

"That goes up front, and hats off to Florida," Pyke said. "That's a very good defense. We've got to look in the mirror and see if we played as hard as we could today. As an offensive line, I think we played hard, but we could have played smarter. We'll watch the film and see."

Said center Brandon Kublanow: "They have a very stout defense with great corners, and that allows them to do a lot of things up front. They shoot a lot of gaps. You never see a game like this coming, but it is what it is and we've got to move on."
