Chattanooga native Ryan Martin is visiting his hometown, where the City Council at 6 p.m. today and the Hamilton County Commission at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday will honor the 23-year-old for his 16-0 start as a professional boxer. Martin, who has been fighting out of Cleveland, Ohio, but grew up in the local YCAP program, will speak Wednesday afternoon at his alma mater, Central High School.

Auto Racing

* Kevin Rodden won the Super Pro top prize of $2,500 Saturday night at the Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip with a 5.96-second run on a 5.93 dial in a 1972 Chevrolet Vega powered by a modified 427-cubic-inch small-block engine. Shane Hartline was second in a 1965 Mustang GT, and 15-year-old Jake Clayton was third. Marty Goldsmith won the Foot Brake class with a 7.95 run on a 7.96 dial, with David Bigham second, and Shelby Whittle was the Junior Dragster victor with a 7.91 on a 7.990; Branson Jones was second. Steve Babcock of LaFayette had the low elapsed time (4.60) and top speed (145.25) of the meet.

Volleyball

* Sewanee senior Sara Jayne Sutton was the Southern Athletic Association volleyball defensive player of the week after averaging 4.8 digs per set in three matches. She has totaled at least 22 in three of the last four.
