UTC hires former Wisconsin assistant Lamont Paris to take over men's basketball

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has agreed to a six-year deal with former Wisconsin assistant coach Lamont Paris, according to sources close to the Times Free Press and national reports.

He replaces Matt McCall, who left after two seasons and a 47-19 record to become the new head coach at the University of Massachusetts.

Paris, who was a finalist for the UTC job in 2015, has spent the last seven seasons with the Badgers, including last year as the associate head coach. During his time, the Badgers made six Sweet 16s and two Final Fours, including a national runner-up finish in 2015.

Prior to his time at Wisconsin, Paris was an assistant at Akron for six seasons, serving as the lead recruiter and helping the Zips to a NCAA tournament, two National Invitational Tournaments and a College Basketball Insider appearance. He also spent eight seasons at different coaches at the NCAA Division III level.

He is a native of Findlay, Ohio, and played collegiately at Division III Wooster University. He was named team captain and Most Valuable Player his final two seasons, and earned all-North Coast Atlantic Conference honors in each of those seasons.

The Scots made three trips to the Division III national tournament and won two conference titles in his time.
