Area College Basketball Roundup: Cougars, Lady Tigers win in TCCAA doubleheader

After Chattanooga State edged the Cleveland State women 74-72 in the TCCAA basketball doubleheader Saturday in Cleveland, the host Cougars beat Chattanooga State's Tigers 80-59 with Tevin Olison and Cam Copeland scoring 17 and 16 points and Victor Curry matching 15 points with 15 rebounds.

Jordan Olison added 13 points for the Cougars, and Copeland had four assists. Maleek Taylor led the Tigers with 13 points, aided by 10 from Orlando Moore.

Shashana Miller scored 24 points and Mia Collins had 19 plus 10 rebounds for the Lady Tigers, who outscored the Lady Cougars 27-18 in the second quarter. Kaela Patrick contributed 14 points to the win. Leisa Butler and Abby Hubert scored 22 and 19 for Cleveland State, which got 12 from JaTasha Hollinger.

- Mississippi College 90, Lee 83: At Clinton, Miss., the Flames lost the Gulf South Conference game despite 27 and 23 points and a combined seven 3-point baskets from Rico Overall and Keevin Tyus. Cody Farley had 10 points and five assists and Levi Woods grabbed eight rebounds for Lee (9-15, 5-13).

- Lee (w) 61, Mississippi College 60: The Lady Flames clinched a spot in the GSC tournament with the close win that featured 15 points from Anna Woodford and 12 points and 12 rebounds from Carrie Cheeks. Erin Walsh and Abby Bertram had five and four assists for Lee (17-7, 12-6).

- Bethel 102, Dalton State 89: At McKenzie, Tenn., the NAIA's fourth-ranked Roadrunners fell for the second time in a row in Southern States play after winnning 15 straight games. Andrew Rogan hit five 3s and scored 32 points and Isaac Edmondson had 24 with 16 made free throws plus eight rebounds for Bethel (18-8, 9-7), which was 34-of-45 from the foul line compared to 16-of-23 for the guests. Reed Dungan scored 27 points and Isaiah Box and Carnilious Simmons added 21 and 17 for DSC (20-3, 12-3).

- Bryan 81, Montreat 72: At Dayton, Tenn., reserve Riley Dempsey scored 22 points on 8-of-10 field-goal shooting in the Lions' fourth victory in a row - an upset of the Appalachian Athletic Conference's third-place team. Also for 10th-place Bryan, Oteriah Lee had 15 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, Reagan Johnson also had seven assists and Wray Fuller, Brice Cusick and Tyler Yoder scored 12, 11 and 10 points.

- Bryan (w) 78, Montreat 62: The AAC's reigning player of the week, Amber Levi, made 13 of 13 free throws and scored 25 points in the Lady Lions' league win. Maebry McNeese had 15 points and seven rebounds and Erisha Talley tallied 10 points in the win.

- St. Andrews 67, Tennessee Wesleyan 65: At Athens, Tenn., the Bulldogs lost a nine-point lead in falling at home in the AAC game. Johnson Decembre scored 12 points and QD Cox had 11 for TWU (16-10, 10-8).

- Tennessee Wesleyan (w) 89, St. Andrews 64: The Lady Bulldogs rose to 14-12, 12-8 in the AAC, with 15 points apiece from Madison Walkup and Kelsey Young, 11 from Summer Morris and nine and eight with four and five assists from Hunter Simpson and Kenzie Conn.

- Covenant 67, Averett 63: At Covenant, Caleb Haynes had 17 points and nine rebounds as the Scots stretched their win streak to five games with the USA South victory. Will Portlock had 14 points and five assists and Z Arima had 11 points and seven rebounds for Covenant.

- Covenant (w) 86, Salem 83: At Winston-Salem, N.C., all five Lady Scots starters scored in double figures and Rachel Price pulled down 17 rebounds in the USA South win. Kaley Hallmark hit four 3s and totaled 21 points, while Alex Quimby, Joanna Smith, Aleigha Williams and Price scored 13, 12, 11 and 10. Covenant will play Huntingdon or LaGrange in the first round of the league tournament Friday at Maryville, Tenn.
