The Times Free Press has learned about two more hires for new University of Tennessee at Chattanooga head football coach Tom Arth's first staff.

Jonathan Cooley, who was most recently a defensive assistant at the University of Kentucky, has been added to the staff and will serve as the program's secondary coach. Cooley focused primarily on the defensive backs while with the Wildcats after a four-year career as a cornerback at John Carroll from 2007-10.

He had coaching stops at Division III Milliken University and Bluffton University, then spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach in charge of the secondary. With his help, the Blue Streaks' defense finished in the top five nationally both seasons, including a No. 1 ranking in 2013.

Cooley started three seasons at John Carroll, finishing in the top 10 all-time in career pass breakups.

Multiple sources have also told the Times Free Press that DeMarcus Covington will be on staff, although his current position isn't currently known. Covington is currently listed as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Eastern Illinois. He had prior coaching stops at Alabama-Birmingham, Ole Miss and Tennessee-Martin.

Covington played wide receiver for Samford in college and was a three-year starter, catching 62 passes for 586 yards and a pair of scores from 2007-11.

Covington could be the team's outside linebackers coach, a position that currently needs to be filled. That would leave only the wide receiver coach position as vacant.

The pair would join the UTC-confirmed hires of Justin Rascati (offensive coordinator), Brandon Staley (defensive coordinator), Shawn Bryson (running backs), Nick Hennessey (offensive line), Chris Hurd (tight ends/special teams), Brian Cochran (defensive line), Matthew Feeney (linebackers) and Kadeem Wise (director of football operations).

Although not announced by the university yet, Scott Aligo is on the staff as the executive director of player personnel and recruiting, according to his Twitter bio.

Arth and his staff are currently out on the road recruiting, as the live period began earlier this week.
