Hamilton Heights' C.J. Massengill will play basketball for Mocs

Former Hamilton Heights guard C.J. Massengill has announced his intentions to play basketball for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

The 6-foot-1 guard played sparingly on a Hawks team that had three guards sign with NCAA Division I programs: Shai Alexander (Kentucky), Nickeil Alexander-Walker (Virginia Tech) and Therren Shelton-Szmidt (Middle Tennessee State University). His best game came against Covenant Ministries, when he scored 10 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers.

"Thank God for the opportunity to play at the next level at The University Of Tennessee at Chattanooga - UTC" he posted on his Twitter account.

Massengill could find an opportunity to get on the court early at UTC, for whom sophomore Rodney Chatman is the only scholarship point guard. He will be the sixth freshman on the 2017-18 roster as well as the sixth newcomer, joining guard Jonathan Bryant, guard/forward Duane Moss and forwards Justin Brown, Joan Duran and James Lewis.

A seventh newcomer, Fairfield transfer Jerry Johnson, will have to sit out the 2017-18 season.
