Rain halts Arkansas-Tennessee opener in second inning

KNOXVILLE - Tennessee's baseball series opener against Arkansas received an interruption from Mother Nature on Thursday night.

The Volunteers trailed the Razorbacks 1-0 after an inning and a half, when the game was suspended due to heavy rain.

Thursday's suspended game will resume at 6 this evening, and the teams will attempt to play a pair of seven-inning games beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday to end the series.

With Tennessee in the middle of final exams, a Friday doubleheader is not an option. Weather forecasts for today and Saturday predict rain both days.

Tennessee's premier starting pitcher, Hunter Martin, threw 27 pitches in two innings. Arkansas' Jared Gates scored from third base on a wild pitch as heavy rain began to fall in the top of the second.
