Hardin Valley's Abbey Cornelius commits to UTC women's basketball

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team has picked up its second commitment for the 2018 signing class, this one from forward Abbey Cornelius of Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville.

The 6-foot-2 senior forward was the District 4-AAA most valuable player in 2016-17 for the Lady Hawks, who won 23 games and advanced to a state sectional. She averaged 15 points, 10.5 rebounds and two blocks per game, topping both the 1,000-point and 1,000-rebound milestones for her career.

As a sophomore she put up similar numbers with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and two steals per game while helping Hardin Valley reach the Region 2-AAA semifinals.

Cornelius joins 6-foot forward Eboni Williams from Hoover, Ala., as players committed to sign with UTC. The Mocs have three seniors on their 2017-18 roster: sisters Aryanna and Keiana Gilbert and Anne Claire Noblit.
