Lee teams first, second in big Charlotte cross country meet

Lee University was first among 25 teams in the women's race and second out of 22 in the men's in the Royals Cross Country Challenge on Friday in Charlotte, N.C.

Charlotte school Queens won the men's 8-kilometer event with 37 points to Lee's 59 and was second with 61 to the nationally 15th-ranked Lady Flames' 52 in the 5k. Lee had the second-place men's runner, Christian Noble in 23:50, and the fourth-place female, Emily Bulwaldi in 17:43, along with Audrey Smith, Amy Carpenter and Becca Umbarger 11th through 13th and Charlee Boxall 21st.

Lee's Seth Eagleson was eighth with Harold Smith 14th, Caleb Eagleson 15th and Ben Gilman 20th as the Flames set a program record of 24:45 for the team's average 8k time. The old record was from the same meet last year.

The Queens men are ranked ninth in NCAA Division II, the Queens women 14th. Alabama-Huntsville from Lee's league was a distant third in the men's race with 104 points and fourth in the women's with 127, behind Saint Leo with 96.
