Alabama redshirt junior right tackle Matt Womack, who started all 14 games last season, underwent foot surgery Friday after sustaining an injury in practice Thursday.

Womack missed spring practices this year with a foot injury and injured the same foot. He is expected to miss multiple games next month.

"Thank you for all of the prayers on my surgery today!" Womack posted Friday afternoon on Twitter. "I know these injuries over the past six months didn't happen to me, they happened for me! Comeback season is in full effect."

The Crimson Tide averaged 37.1 points and 250.6 rushing yards per game last season, ranking among the top 15 teams nationally in each category.

Womack, a 6-foot-7, 325-pounder from Hernando, Mississippi, has been working most practices this month as the second-team right tackle. Sophomores Jedrick Wills and Alex Leatherwood have been flipping back and forth between first-team right tackle and right guard, with Wills holding first-team right tackle during the portion of Friday's practice that was open to the media.

Alabama is scheduled to hold its second preseason scrimmage this afternoon inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
