The Lee University basketball teams both beat visiting Delta State in Gulf South Conference play Thursday, 54-27 in the women's game and 62-53 in the men's. Abby Bertram had 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Lady Flames (15-3, 8-2), who allowed their guests more than seven points in only one quarter and outscored them 15-1 in the third. For the Flames (11-6, 6-4), Colton Blevins scored 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Parker Suedekum had eight assists.

» Carnilious Simmons had 20 points and nine rebounds and Reed Dungan scored 19 as Dalton State won 78-75 in a Southern States game at Loyola in New Orleans. Benat Hevia and Raheem England added 13 and 12 points for the Roadrunners (14-4, 7-1), ranked 13th in NAIA Division I.

» The Bryan College women's basketball team is 14-5 overall and 11-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference after routing Truett McConnell 88-60 in Thursday's doubleheader in Dayton. Bryan won the men's game 80-70 with 23 points and nine rebounds from E.J. Bush, 15 points from Terrance Scales, 13 from Brice Cusick and 10 plus four assists from Clay Hertel. Myles Monroe led the Bears with 18 points; Filipe Goncalves from Hamilton Heights in Chattanooga scored 14. For the Lady Lions, Shayla Ludy scored 16 points and Amber Levi and Karli Combs added 15 and 14. Anna Murr, daughter of former Tennessee Temple star Joel Murr, led TMU with 16.

» Led by reigning AAC player of the week Hunter Simpson, Tennessee Wesleyan's Lady Bulldogs improved to 12-5, 11-3 in the league, with a 67-60 win Thursday at Brenau (12-6, 7-5). Simpson had 28 points and 13 rebounds while Savannah Atkins added 11 points and six blocked shots and Madison Walkup grabbed nine rebounds.

» The Covenant College men's basketball team erased a 21-point halftime deficit but lost 89-82 in overtime to visiting Piedmont in a USA South game Thursday night. It was the first home loss of the season for the Scots (7-7, 3-4), who got 19 points and nine rebounds from Caleb Haynes, 17 points from Berto Dryden, 14 from Will Crumly and 13 points, six assists and five steals from Bailey Spragg. Piedmont's Elijah Alston had 25 points and 13 rebounds.

» Two days after originally scheduled, Maryville College won 79-61 in USA South women's play at Covenant. Madison Maples scored 17 points and Rachel Hawn had 14 plus 13 rebounds for Maryville (12-7, 8-1). Emma Grimes had 15 points, Kaley Hallmark 12 points, six assists and seven rebounds and Jessica Bell 11 points and five steals for Covenant (6-10, 2-5). Grimes made five 3s; Hallmark hit four.

Tennis

» Sewanee is ranked 18th in the women's poll and 22nd in the men's in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason listings for NCAA Division III. They were 17th and 22nd in the 2017 final rankings, and both teams were Southern Athletic Association champions for fifth successive year. This is the 47th consecutive poll inclusion for the female Tigers, going back to April 13, 2010. It's the 18th in a row for the Sewanee men, who will face 11 preseason ranked teams in their 19 regular-season nonconference matches.

Academics

» Lee University's eight athletes on the GSC Fall All-Academic Team included the school's top players in women's soccer and volleyball and three all-conference runners. All-American and GSC player of the year Summer Lanter with a 3.90 grade point average and all-region McKenzie Bricker with a 3.87 were soccer Lady Flames along with Suzanne Arant (4.0) earning the league academic honor, and Danny Johnston (3.77) represented the men's team. All-GSC Silvia Sartori (3.84) from volleyball and All-GSC cross country athletes Emily Buwalda (3.56), Seth Eagleson (3.67) and Moises Pence (3.84) were the others - Eagleson for the third consecutive season.
