Chase Andrews was 3-for-6 with two doubles and five RBIs as the Lee University baseball team belted Bellarmine 20-2 on Tuesday in Cleveland. Chase Gadau homered twice and Spencer Mossburg homered and tripled in matching Tyler Payne with three RBIs each, and Miguel Pimentel and Peyton Meeker each scored three runs for the Flames (8-11). Christian Bokich (1-0) pitched the first five innings, allowing three hits and no runs.

» NCAA Division III member Covenant College gave Division II's Carson-Newman a challenge Tuesday but lost 8-5 as the host Eagles (13-6) scored three runs in the eighth inning. C.J. Edmond and Joel Johnson homered, Edmond with two RBIs, and Christian Murray and Tyler Moore hit RBI triples for the Scots (7-8).

» Bryan College had both the player of the week, Fernando Garcia, and the pitcher of the week, Stephen Chamblee, for Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball. Chamblee pitched a nine-inning shutout with 15 strikeouts against Truett McConnell and is 4-0 this season. Garcia is a repeat honoree after batting .667 with six runs batted in and eight scored in the Lions' 3-1 week. His 10 hits included a home run and two doubles, and he was 3-for-3 in stolen bases.

Softball

» Covenant edged visiting Sewanee 6-5 on an eighth-inning throwing error and then won 8-0 on Sarah Huskey and Joni Johnson's two-hit pitching in their softball doubleheader Tuesday. Jackie O'Reilly was 3-for-4 with a grand slam for Sewanee (1-8) in game one, and Taylor Wagner and Amanda Watters each was 2-for-4 and scored a run. For the Lady Scots (9-11), Carlin Labuzzan was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, Shade Epes was 3-for-3 and scored a run and Carsyn Stone was 2-for-4 with a run. Epes was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in game two, when Shelby Ralston was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Kirsten Aanensen was 2-for-2 with a run.

Lacrosse

» Anna Comer and Preston Cooper scored three goals apiece and Catherine Crigler, Alden Woolford, Mary Kate Myers and Kit Sommi each had two as the Sewanee women's lacrosse team beat visiting Carthage 17-4 on Tuesday. Molly Elkins had a goal and two assists for the Tigers (5-1).

» Becca Broadwick scored eight goals in Lee's 18-16 lacrosse win Monday night at Palm Beach Atlantic, including six in the 11-3 second half. Emma Hill and Kaylyn Dillon netted three goals apiece for Lee (4-2), and Christa Hill made 12 saves in her first start in goal.

Tennis

» Sewanee's Christina Merchant was chosen the Southern Athletic Association women's tennis player of the week for her play in the ITA indoor nationals in Chattanooga. She defeated the nationally 17th-ranked player in singles and won twice in doubles with Ellie Czura as Sewanee went 2-1, losing only to champion Emory.

Running

» Christian Thompson repeated his 2017 victory by winning the 2018 Erlanger Chattanooga Marathon on Sunday. The local Fleet Feet representative finished in 2 hours, 31 minutes, 26 seconds - almost 27 minutes ahead of runner-up Adam Veron (2:58:16). Garick Hill (2:58:53) and Owen Speer (2:59:51) also beat three hours, and Rebecca Weinand was the first female and 10th overall in 3:10:00. Matthew Jenkins (1:14:33) and Rachel Mason (1:25:54) were the half marathon winners; Perry Shands (1:16:14) and Nicholas Morgan (1:17:24) were second and third. Chase Faudi and Zachary Faudi were first and second in the Classic 150 5k, with Kathryn Vradenburgh and Stephanie Mauer 10th and 11th as the top females.

Soccer

» The 06 Redoubt Lady Generals won the U12 gold division in the East Tennessee Spring Classic soccer tournament this past weekend in Knoxville. They went 3-0 with 5-2, 3-0 and 1-0 wins. Coached by Chris Carpenter, assisted by Jason Smith, the players are Brooke Bolton, Anna Chen, Molly Cope, Channing Edmonds, Cheyenne Frye, Zeva Phillips, Lily Saunders, Kat Smith, Bella Steele, Ella Kat Sullvan, Emily Thomae and Abigail Young.
