KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee men's basketball program announced the addition of its third signee for the 2019-20 freshman class Thursday, when wing Davonte Gaines turned in his paperwork.

Gaines joins five-star guard Josiah-Jordan James and three-star forward Drew Pember as members of the signing class. The other two signed Wednesday.

The 6-foot-7 Gaines committed to the Volunteers in June 2017. He graduated from Health Sciences Charter School in Buffalo this past spring and is spending a year at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia. He was listed as the No. 5 overall prospect in New York before moving to Hargrave and was a two-time New York State Sportswriters Association Class B all-state first-team selection.

Gaines had four quadruple-doubles and 11 triple-doubles in his senior season.

"Davonte has a tremendous future ahead of him," Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said in a news release. "We're all excited about the opportunity to work with him, because he has so much potential.

"What makes him special as a player is his versatility. He has excellent size and length and is an excellent passer and playmaker, which will improve our overall skill on the perimeter. Of course, he also has the ability to score. This season at Hargrave Military Academy will help him immensely."
