Area sports notes: Mocs' Isaiah Mack a finalist for Buchanan Award

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior defensive lineman Isaiah Mack from Northwest Whitfield High School is one of 25 finalists announced Monday for the Buck Buchanan Award. It goes each year to the top defensive player in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision, and it is chosen based on regular-season achievements by a national panel of more than 150 sports information and media relations directors, writers, broadcasters and others with FCS expertise. Mack had 11.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and two forced fumbles this season.

* Sewanee senior linebacker Lee Menefee was picked for the second year in a row as an All-Southern Athletic Association first-team football player, and Tigers teammates Karim Antoine and William Phillips were second-team defensive selections, and Wesley Porter, Walker Weatherly and offensive players John Gaither, Micah Maes and Daniel Armagh received All-SAC honorable mention. Menefee led the league in 2018 with 90 tackles and totaled 244 with 13 for lost yardage in his Sewanee career. Antoine had 50 tackles this year, and Phillips had 37 plus four interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Basketball

* Ryan Montgomery had 18 points and seven rebounds and Colton Blevins added 12 points for Lee University in a 79-56 Division II nonconference men's basketball home loss Monday night to Tusculum. Lee is 1-4. Donovan Donaldson and Tariq Jenkins scored 19 and 18 for the Pioneers (2-3).
