Area sports notes: Lake Guntersville picked for Bassmaster Elite Series

Birmingham-based B.A.S.S. announced Thursday that Lake Guntersville in northeastern Alabama will be the site of one of the Bassmaster Elite Series tournaments next year, with Scottsboro as the host city for the June 21-24 event centered at the Goose Pond Colony Resort. New York's Cayuga Lake also was part of Thursday's news release, for Aug. 22-25, a week after a tournament already scheduled not far away on the St. Lawrence River. They take the place of tournaments in California and the state of Washington. "Guntersville is widely known as one of the best bass fisheries in the country, and it's very centrally located for many of our competitors," B.A.S.S. chief executive officer Bruce Akin said in the release. "Cayuga is also an excellent fishery, and the timing of that tournament will allow our anglers to make one great trip to the Northeastern United States." Lake Guntersville has been the site of 22 major B.A.S.S. events, including the 2014 Bassmaster Classic, the release noted.

Soccer

' The Dalton State College women's soccer team is 6-2-1 overall but 0-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference after losing 4-0 to Mobile in Dalton on Thursday. Cheyne Bush and Nadia Soderburg scored in the first six minutes and each had an assist in the game as well for Mobile (6-3, 1-0), which led 16-2 in shots, 10-2 in shots on goal and 6-0 in corner kicks. Noemi Mallet and Sylvana Kempka scored in the 75th and 79th minutes.
