The Dalton State College women's golf team was picked to finish second in the Southern States Athletic Conference this year, behind reigning champion Loyola of Louisiana. The difference was just one point in the coaches' poll, 58 to 57, with Loyola receiving four first-place votes, DSC three and third-place William Carey (52 points) one in the eight-team league. DSC's Lady Roadrunners lost one senior from the 2018-19 squad that finished sixth in the NAIA national tournament but return All-Americans Isabel Rijos, Cameron Daniel and Hannah Gasaway plus fifth-year senior Haejin Choe and sophomore Katelyn Skiffen. Two promising freshmen are Oklahoma Class 6-A state champion Sydney Hermann and two-time Indiana 4-A sectional medalist Megan Donahue. The team opens Sept. 16-17 at the Sand Shark Invitational in South Carolina.

Tennis

» The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announced Friday its men's tennis schedule for the fall semester, and it begins Sept. 13-15 with the Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Courts Championships at Manker Patten. Both UTC teams will host a day of alumni matches on Sept. 21, and the men play Sept. 27-30 in the Southern Intercollegiate at Athens, Georgia; Oct. 5-13 in the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Oct. 11-13 in the Louisville Invitational; and Oct. 24-28 in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional at Vanderbilt. Coach Chuck Merzbacher's Mocs will host the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic Oct. 31-Nov. 3 and wrap up the fall by playing in the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in California (Nov. 6-10) and the Pelham (Alabama) Racquet Club Collegiate (Nov. 8-10). "This year we have a large team and a lot of depth. The goal of the fall is to get everyone enough matches to be ready for the spring season," Merzbacher said in a release. "Our top players will be in the ITA All-American Championships and the ITA Ohio Valley Regional based on their play last year. Most likely, events that may have most of the team playing are the Ohio Valley Regional, Louisville Invite and the UTC Steve Baras Invite. The rest of the events on the schedule will be with smaller groups playing."
