D.C. safety Mordecai McDaniel commits to Vols for 2020

KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee football program picked up its 14th commitment for the 2020 recruiting cycle Wednesday when Mordecai McDaniel gave a nonbinding pledge to the program.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety, who plays for St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C., has been rated as a three-star prospect by 247Sports.com's composite system, which includes the rankings of ESPN.com and Rivals.com. He's ranked the 33rd-best safety and the sixth-best recruit overall in Washington.

He chose the Volunteers over Florida and Penn State, and Alabama and Notre Dame were also among the 17 programs that made offers to him.

McDaniel is the fourth defensive back commit to Tennessee for 2020 and the second safety, joining four-star recruit Keshawn Lawrence.
