Area sports notes: Covenant women win by 61 points

Sophomore Raquel Rosa led Covenant College to a 61-point USA South women's basketball victory Friday at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Rosa had a career-high 20 points plus nine rebounds, four steals and four assists in the 92-31 win for the Lady Scots (4-9, 2-3), and Abi Chatham scored 12 points, all on 3-point baskets. Joanna Smith and Bekah Walter scored 10 apiece, and Taylor Robinson matched Rosa's nine rebounds and added five assists. Hannah Monday had eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Covenant totaled 68 rebounds, third most in program history, and limited Wesleyan to 32.

» Sewanee divided a Southern Athletic Association doubleheader against visiting Hendrix, with the Arkansas school winning the women's game 76-64 but falling 78-70 to the Sewanee men. Hunter Buescher scored 26 points for the winning Tigers (12-1, 1-1) on 9-of-10 shooting from the field, including 4-of-4 on 3s, and made four steals. Luke Smith and Jordan Warlick scored 13 points each, Smith with five assists, and Adrian Thomas had 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Hendrix women (8-5, 1-1) got 19 points and five assists from Amber Turner and 18 points and eight rebounds but nine turnovers from Vinessa Daniel. For Sewanee (6-6, 0-2), which was outscored 25-12 in the second quarter, Ellie Treanton had 13 points and nine rebounds, Bella Taylor scored 12 points and Sue Kim contributed 11 points, eight assists and four steals.
