Area sports notes: Lee women win but men's win streak ends

The Lee University basketball teams split their Gulf South Conference games Thursday with visiting West Georgia, Lee's Lady Flames winning 66-49 but the Flames falling 70-66 for their first loss in nine games. Nicky Widenski led the Lee women (12-3, 6-1) with 16 points, while Kayla Tillie added 13 and Abby Bertram had 10 plus seven assists and seven rebounds. From a six-point early deficit they led 32-23 at halftime and 55-38 through three quarters. For the Flames (9-6, 6-1), Kentrell Evans had 14 points and five assists and Colton Blevins and Leander Ridgeway each scored 15 points, Blevins with nine rebounds. Tajah Fraley scored 18 points with 8-of-10 shooting for the winning Wolves.

» The first-place and nationally 15th-ranked Bryan College Lady Lions are 14-1 overall and 12-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference after winning 71-56 Thursday at Truett McConnell, but the Bryan men lost 72-60. Deandra Luna scored 17 points with three 3-point baskets and seven rebounds for the Lady Lions, who got 12 points from Tristan McClellan, 10 rebounds with nine points from To'Nesha Allison and another nine points from Destiny Kassner. Austin Douglas scored 12 points for the Lions (8-9, 5-6), and EJ Bush and Justin Warner totaled 10 apiece, Bush with 13 rebounds. Christian Davis had 20 points with five 3s and seven rebounds for TMU (10-7, 5-6).

» Tennessee Wesleyan's Lady Bulldogs took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter and held off Union College, 64-63, for an AAC home win, but league co-leader Union won the men's game 81-72. Hunter Simpson led the TWU women (9-5, 7-5) with 22 points, eight rebounds, five steals and five assists, and Jacobi Lynn and Kenzie Conn scored 11 and 10 points. Brooke Hammonds had 19 points and six steals for Union, which scored the last two points of the game with 2:04 to go. Lynn scored 21 points with five 3s and Hannah Troutt had 10 rebounds in TWU's 77-61 win Tuesday at Allen. Thursday for the TWU men (8-7, 4-6), QD Cox had 23 points with five 3s, Jalen Oliver had 15 points and four assists and Todd Lansden blocked seven shots and grabbed 14 rebounds two nights after collecting 12 rebounds in a 20-point loss at Allen. Also Tuesday, Oliver scored 21 points and Ty Patterson added 17 plus nine rebounds.

» Sean Cranney poured in 23 points with five 3s as Dalton State won 93-84 over Florida College in Southern States Athletic Conference play in Dalton. Also for the Roadrunners (9-6, 4-3), Elijah Staley scored 20 points, Sean Chislom had 17 points and nine rebounds and Randy Bell added 13 points.

» The Chattanooga State men are 8-6 after resuming their schedule with a 109-68 road win Wednesday night against the King University junior varsity. The Lady Tigers are 9-4. Chattanooga State hosts Cleveland State in a TCCAA doubleheader Saturday, beginning with the women's game at 2 p.m.
