Area sports notes: Sewanee basketball teams swept at Oglethorpe

Sewanee was swept in a Southern Athletic Association basketball doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Atlanta's Oglethorpe University. Sewanee's men lost 67-60, their second straight defeat after a six-game winning streak, with the Tigers (13-3, 2-3) led by Luke Smith's 31 points against the Stormy Petrels (8-8, 2-3). Smith was 9-for-18 from the field, including 6-for-10 from 3-point range, and 7-for-8 on free throws. The Sewanee women fell to 7-9, 1-4 with their 73-48 loss. Sue Kim scored 12 points and made four steals and Bella Bombassi grabbed 10 rebounds and tallied five assists for the Tigers. Oglethorpe (13-3, 4-1) led 26-15, 44-21 and 59-30 at the quarter breaks.

» Tennessee Wesleyan lost 79-61 to the second-place Milligan women and 88-85 in overtime to the Milligan men in Saturday's Appalachian Athletic Conference road doubleheader. QD Cox scored 21 points with four 3-point baskets and had seven rebounds and Djimon Wilson scored 19 points in the fifth consecutive loss for the Bulldogs (8-8, 4-7), while Ty Patterson had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Todd Lansden 12 rebounds and Jordan Davis 10 points and seven assists against the Buffaloes (11-5, 7-4). The Lady Bulldogs (9-6, 7-6) got 22 points and seven rebounds from Hunter Simpson and 17 points from Hannah Cherry. Milligan's women are 13-3, 11-1.

» Senior Kiana Davis from Ooltewah was one of four East Tennessee State event winners Saturday in the ETSU Track and Field Invitational indoor meet. Davis won the women's 60-meter dash in 7.62 seconds.
