Keionta Davis is set to become the third former University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football player to compete in a Super Bowl.

The 2016 graduate and current New England defensive lineman was the 2016 Southern Conference defensive player of the year and finished ninth in the voting for the national Buck Buchanan Award.

Davis was on injured reserve for the Patriots' Super Bowl loss to Philadelphia last year. The former Red Bank High School standout said in a release Tuesday by the UTC athletic department that he's relishing the moment to make Chattanooga proud.

"I'm sure it's every football player's dream to make it to the Super Bowl," Davis said. "But there is more to it than just making it, and that's what I'm looking forward to. I know everybody back home is rooting for us. What makes it even more special for me personally is the opportunity to bring one back to my hometown that helped put me in this position."

The only other Mocs to play in Super Bowls are running back Marrio Grier and wide receiver Terrell Owens. Grier played for the Patriots in the Super Bowl XXXI loss to Chattanooga native Reggie White and the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 26, 1997.

Owens had a spectacular performance with the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX on Feb. 6, 2005. Playing on an injured ankle, he caught nine passes for 122 yards in a 24-21 loss to New England.

Former Mocs defensive lineman Tony Hill, a 2018 UTC Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Tony Hill received a Super Bowl ring with the Dallas Cowboys in 1993 but did not play in the game. He played in five games in the 1992 regular season and was active on the playoff roster but was on injured reserve for the Jan. 31 Super Bowl against Buffalo.
