CBS made it official Tuesday, announcing that Notre Dame's game at Georgia on Sept. 21 would be the network's prime-time telecast for the 2019 college football season.

Since CBS began its current contract with the Southeastern Conference in 1996, Georgia never has been involved in the network's lone evening broadcast. The showdown in Sanford Stadium also will mark the first time the CBS prime-time telecast has included a team outside the SEC.

The Georgia-Notre Dame game will break an eight-year run of the network televising Alabama-LSU at night, that stretch starting with LSU's 9-6 overtime triumph in Tuscaloosa in 2011. Before Alabama-LSU, CBS televised multiple Alabama-Florida, Florida-LSU and Florida-Tennessee games in prime time.

Georgia and Notre Dame are playing for the first time in Athens and for the first time since the Bulldogs won a 20-19 thriller in South Bend two years ago.

CBS previously announced that its 3:30 and 8 doubleheader would be on Sept. 21. The most likely candidates for the 3:30 slot are Auburn-Texas A&M in College Station and Florida-Tennessee in Gainesville.
