Georgia's top-10 signing class in men's college basketball for 2019 now includes a pure point guard.

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs announced the signing of Sahvir Wheeler, a top-100 prospect nationally according to ESPN, Rivals.com and 247Sports.com. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound Texan helped guide Houston Christian to a 61-13 record during his final two high school seasons, averaging 19 points, seven rebounds and nine assists per game this past season.

"We're very excited about Sahvir," Georgia basketball coach Tom Crean said in a release. "His speed, change of direction and floor vision are really unique. He can score in a variety of ways, from getting to the rim all the way out to shooting 3s, and he can put a tremendous amount of pressure on the ball defensively.

"He is a dynamic floor general who possesses the skills to make his teammates better with his exceptional passing ability."

Wheeler is Georgia's fifth signee who has top-100 status, joining 6-5 shooting guard Anthony Edwards of Atlanta, 6-6 small forward Christian Brown of Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, 6-6 small forward Jaykwon Walton of Montgomery, Alabama, and 6-6 small forward Toumani Camara of Hollywood, Florida.

Georgia's signing class is currently ranked No. 6 by Rivals, No. 8 by 247Sports and No. 9 by ESPN.

Runner injured

Georgia director of sports medicine Ron Courson said Wednesday that a full recovery is expected for Elija Godwin, a freshman sprinter who accidentally backed into a stationary javelin that was resting implanted in the ground during Tuesday's practice.

"We would like to express appreciation for all those who acted so quickly and efficiently in coming to the aid of Elija," Courson said in a release.
