The Georgia Bulldogs picked up their highest-rated football commitment of the 2020 recruiting cycle Thursday night, receiving a nonbinding pledge from five-star outside linebacker Mekhail Sherman of Washington, D.C.

Sherman took official visits last month to Georgia and Ohio State and also considered Alabama. The 6-foot-3, 234-pounder is the nation's No. 11 overall recruit and the No. 2 outside linebacker, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings.

The Bulldogs now have eight commitments for 2020 and two five-star prospects, with their class currently ninth in the 247Sports.com team rankings. The first five-star recruit to commit to Georgia in this cycle was offensive tackle Broderick Jones from the Atlanta suburb of Lithonia.

Sherman racked up 51 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, seven sacks and one forced fumble as a sophomore in 2017, but he missed most of his junior season due to an ACL tear.
