Chattanooga State loses opener in softball nationals

Chattanooga State opened play in the NJCAA Division I national tournament Wednesday night in St. George, Utah, with a five-inning 8-0 loss to sixth-seeded Temple College from central Texas.

The Lady Tigers (42-9), who are seeded 11th, move into the losers bracket in the 16-team double-elimination event. They are scheduled to face 15th seed Lake Land at 7 p.m. EDT Thursday.

Temple's Leopards are 47-9 and play No. 3 seed Chipola College from Florida on Thursday. Chipola beat Lake Land 10-2, also in five innings.
