UTC (6-17, 5-4) vs. FURMAN (15-9, 5-4)

Thursday at 7 in Greenville, S.C.

TV & Radio: ESPN+ & 97.7 FM/1070 AM

Storyline: Saturday's disappointing loss at home to Western Carolina becomes even more painful when considering the Southern Conference standings. A win would have put the Mocs in a four-way tie for first place. As it is they are tied with Thursday night's opponent for fourth. A win would essentially give UTC a two-game edge on the Paladins after winning the earlier matchup. Whichever team wins will do so by, basically, shooting better. The Mocs go as their shots fall — or don't fall. They are coming off a week where they shot 52% in defeating UNCG and 31% in falling to the Catamounts. Furman shot just 28.6% in losing at McKenzie last month and 32% in a loss to Mercer Saturday. Expect the Paladins to get the ball early and often to post Tierra Hodges (12 points/game, 10 rebounds), with guard Le'Jzae Davidson (13.9 points) floating around the 3-point line (where she's made 67). The Mocs need someone in the guard corps — Lakelyn Bouldin, NaKeia Burks or Dena Jarrells — to get hot from the outside to open up the more reliable inside options.

What's at stake? A top-four seed is there for the taking with a win Thursday. With four games after this, three of them at home, a higher finish is certainly possible.

Up next: The Mocs play their final road game of the season Saturday at Wofford at 2.
