The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball Mocs continued their early-season trend by going 1-1 on the second day of their Chattanooga Challenge tournament Saturday at Warner Park.

This time the Mocs rebounded from a 7-5 loss to Bowling Green with a 5-3 defeat of Indiana State behind the complete-game pitching of Celie Hudson (3-0) and Emma Sturdivant's bases-loaded, two-run tiebreaking single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Aly Walker and Katie Corum had RBI hits in the first inning of that game, and UTC tied the score at 3 in the fifth on an error on Corum's bases-full batted ball.

Emily Coltharp and Jenice Casanas at the top of the lineup each was 1-for-2 and scored twice in the Mocs' win.

UTC scored three runs in the first inning of Saturday's first game, but Bowling Green already had five. Morgan Kazerooni was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and Cameren Swafford had a two-run single for the Mocs.

West Georgia 3-14, Lee 2-1

At Cleveland, the host Lady Flames fell to 4-4 in dropping their first two Gulf South Conference games of 2020. Raven Smith's two-run home run in the sixth inning proved to be the difference for West Georgia (6-4, 2-0) in the first game. Jacie Arrington and Hannah Scarbrough homered and combined for seven RBIs in game two, when Sissy Atchley was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

For Lee, Taylor De Adder was 2-for-2 with two walks in the opener and 1-for-2 with the RBI in game two. Lulu Vasquez hit a two-run homer and Brooklynn Frazier and Kayla Louie each also had two hits in the first game.

Cleveland State 7-1, Gordon State 6-5

At Barnesville, Georgia, the visiting Lady Cougars pulled out a one-run win in their season opener as Amber Atkins hit a two-run homer, Hannah Turner went 2-for-3 with two runs and Kaylee Hughes and Haley Fair each had two hits also. Fair also had two in game two, when Kaylee Cornelius struck out eight batters in defeat.
