MOCS WOMEN'S MATCHUP
UTC (2-13, 1-0 SoCon) vs. UNC Greensboro (12-4, 1-0)
Saturday at 4 p.m. at Fleming Gym in Greensboro
Video/Radio: ESPN3/95.7 FM/1480 AM
Storyline: The Mocs and Spartans have had distinctly different starts, though each began Southern Conference play with a win Thursday. The Mocs had to play without starting forward Eboni Williams, who was out with illness, yet won at Western Carolina behind 22 points from senior guard Lakelyn Bouldin. UNCG is off to one of the best starts in program history behind the experienced trio of seniors Nadie Soliman (19.3 points, 6.9 rebounds/game) and Te'ja Twitty (13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds) and junior Aja Boyd (11.1 points, 8.4 rebounds). The Spartans are shooting 46.7% from the field, the 14th-best mark in the country and 14% better than the Mocs so far.
What's at stake? Though the Mocs would love to win a second consecutive game after ending an 11-game losing streak, the pressure is on the Spartans here to win at home against a program they are just 9-45 against, though they won the last meeting. If UTC could pull off the upset, it could go a long way in turning around what has been a dreadful season.
Up next: UTC hosts Wofford at 7 p.m. Thursday at McKenzie Arena.
