The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team thrashed visiting Gardner-Webb 34-5 in a Southern Conference dual meet Sunday afternoon in McKenzie Arena. The Mocs (4-6, 2-0) by weight class bookended 15-0 technical falls by Fabian Gutierrez at 125 and Grayson Walthall at 285, but they actually went back to back as the team event began at 149 with a forfeit win for UTC's Tanner Smith. Smith is No. 23 in his class in the FloWrestling national rankings. Gutierrez is ranked 20th, as is 184-pounder Matthew Waddell, who won by pin to give the Mocs an 18-2 lead. GWU (1-5, 0-2) won two two-point decisions. Other winners for UTC were Tyler Shilson, Hunter Fortner, Rodney Jones and Colton Landers in his first college start. "I think we came out a little bit slow as a team," coach Kyle Ruschell said in a UTC release. "As the match got going, I think our guys wrestled pretty tough. We got to our leg attacks and scored a lot of points."
