Scott CochranGeorgia special teams coordinator Scott Cochran is taking an indefinite leave of absence, Bulldogs head football coach Kirby Smart said Sunday.
"Coach Cochran is currently dealing with health issues and is taking time to prioritize his mental health and well-being," Smart said in a released statement. "We fully support him as he takes this time to focus on his well-being."
Former Florida and South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp, hired earlier this year by Smart as a senior defensive analyst, is the most likely candidate to step into Cochran's full-time role.
Cochran was named Georgia's special teams coordinator in February 2020 after 13 seasons as Alabama's strength and conditioning coach. In his first year with the Bulldogs, punter Jake Camarda was named Southeastern Conference special teams player of the year and kicker Jack Podlesny drilled a 53-yard field goal to defeat Cincinnati in January's Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
