The term "project" has been around for years in college football recruiting, with Tennessee receiving a commitment from such a prospect Monday afternoon.
Brian Grant, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound offensive tackle from Choctawatchee Senior in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, gave Josh Heupel's Volunteers a nonbinding pledge for their 2022 class. Grant is not rated as of yet by 247Sports.com but does have scholarship offers from Brigham Young, Florida Atlantic, Maryland and Tulane.
Grant attended the Orange & White spring game late last month.
"I've been kind of leaning to them from the start," Grant told 247Sports. "I felt most comfortable just talking to them, and when I went up there during the spring, I just really fell in love with Knoxville and just the community."
The project element with Grant is reflected by the fact he played football for the first time this past season as a junior. He becomes Tennessee's fifth commitment for the 2022 cycle and the second from the Sunshine State, joining Winter Park defensive end Venson Sneed.
