Chattanooga State hosts NJCAA region tournaments for baseball, softball

The NJCAA Division I Region VII baseball and softball tournaments will begin Sunday at Chattanooga State, and the host school is seeded to play for both championships Thursday.

Both Chattanooga State teams will open Monday in the 10-school competition, including Greg Dennis's baseball Tigers in the day's finale at 7:30 p.m. They are 42-12 (19-6 in TCCAA play) and seeded second behind nationally ranked No. 1 Walters State (51-5, 23-3), with whom they split a regular-season doubleheader.

Blythe Golden's top-seeded Lady Tigers are 48-8 and 31-3 with a 305-69 league run differential, and two of their losses came against fifth seed Cleveland State (27-22, 17-15), which faces Dyersburg State (38-14, 25-11) at 3 p.m. Sunday. Chattanooga State, Volunteer State (46-7, 29-5) and Walters (39-9, 27-5) are ranked 10th, 13th and 19th nationally.

Dyersburg is 17th in baseball at 38-11, 20-7 and opens regional play Monday at 4:30 against sixth seed Cleveland State (28-22, 11-15).
