Morning. Wow, lots to get to.

From the "Talks too much" studios, let it all happen.

So long Spurrier

One of the true coaching legends announced he is stepping down. Steven Orr Spurrier announced late Monday night that he is done.

It had to be this way. (Side note: We write that praying that it is not a medical condition. We will know more when he meets with the media at noon today.)

His final act was like his offense, and his lightning-quick wit: It was quick and direct.

And like everything else the HBC did, it stole the show.

Spurrier is on the short list of guys to be the best coach in two programs' history.

And he did it with a smile on his face and a smile on the faces of almost everyone else. Everyone, that is, unless you were on the other sideline of a Spurrier whipping or on the other side of one his countless quips. (Here are some of his most well-known zingers.)

Here's a very well-done piece on Spurrier from ESPN.com Chris Low, who was very close to Spurrier. For the rest of us, it's hard to know how to react and we all feel a little melancholy and a little surprised, not so much that this was his last year, but that he has coached his last game.

If you are a South Carolina fan, you are left without the shining star that lifted your program to unknown heights.

If you are a Florida fan, you thank the former Gators Heisman winner and the guy that lifted your program to national power.

If you are an SEC fan, you are a little sad because the league is a better place with Spurrier.

If you are an SEC journalist, you are both sad and appreciative because realize you will never see another Steve Spurrier.

Man, SEC media days will never be the same.

NFL power poll

One of the fundamental truths of the NFL is that you are what your record says you are. There are six unbeaten teams, and the zero in the loss column means they are perfect.

They each have flaws, so an imperfect perfect still means something.

Plus, in a race to secure a spot in the postseason party, once a win is notched, it is gold. And the separation around the league for several of these teams - Green Bay, Cincinnati and Denver, especially - is noticeable and meaningful.

Top five

1. New England.

2. Green Bay.

3. Cincinnati.

4. Atlanta.

5. Denver.

Bottom five

28. New Orleans.

29. Jacksonville.

30. San Francisco.

31. Miami.

32. Detroit.

Baseball

Playoff baseball has been a lot of fun.

There's been controversy. There's been star-power. There's been historic performances.

And now there is a ton of drama.

The two AL divisional series are tied 2-2.

The NL has the fan-friendly Cubs up 2-1 over the Cards and the upstart Mets up 2-1 over the high-spending Dodgers.

The pressure surely falls on L.A., which will send Clayton Kershaw to the mound tonight to try to extend its season.

This is a monster moment for the team, which has a payroll in the lofty $300 million neighborhood, and a bigger moment for Kershaw, who has lost his last five posteason starts.

Giddy-up.

This and that

- Several fair points raised here by TFP ace columnist Mark Wiedmer about Will Grier's year-long suspension for using PEDs. Weeds points out the timing - some web references put the rumored information that proved to be true out there Saturday night - and even more puzzling is the hard and clear year-long suspension. Hey, PEDs are bad, but are they worse than illegal drugs or hitting women? The NCAA takes a hard stance against PEDs - again they are bad, and the professional leagues if they wanted to get rid of them would look at the NCAA's policy, because this is the first PED case we can remember in a long time - but buries its head in the sand on more egregious offenses.

- Man tough times for Cousin Eddie. Randy Quaid is behind bars in Vermont. Hope he doesn't run into an inmate like Snots, his dog that had a little bit of Alabama Leg Hound in him. Just let him finish Clark.

- Wow, the internet is a staggering place. One of the leading stories on Yahoo.com this morning was this and it had a headline that certainly left little to the imagination. You stay classy Yahoo.

photo New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning looks to hand off the ball during his game against the St. Louis Rams on Dec. 21, 2014, in St. Louis.

- Crazy stat of the day: With Sunday's late rally for the win, the NFL leader in fourth-quarter comeback victories since 2004 is Eli Manning with 27, one more than brother Peyton.

- Crazy uncool move of the day: This guy who kicked his buddy's long eagle putt that looked like it was going in. So not cool.

- Crazy end to the Monday night football game: Dude, walk-off touchdowns are cool. Gutsy call by Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

- CBSsports trots out its preseason college hoops poll. Yes, there are some familiar names at the top with UNC, UK and Kansas taking the top three spots.

Today's question

We'll have some true or false on Tuesday's Press Row because that's what we do.

We can all agree that Spurrier is on the Rushmore of SEC football coaches.

Does he make the Rushmore of all-time college football coaches?

Whatcha' got?
