Area sports notes: Rowan Fitzsimmons tops city diving meet

Rowan Fitzsimmons from the Stuart Heights team had the top point total, 236, in the Chattanooga Diving League championship meet Sunday at Baylor School. Fitzimmons was in the Junior Olympic 14-15 boys' division. The Baylor Diving Club's Sarah Griffith in the 10-11 age group led the girls with 138.20 points. Rowan and Beck Fitzsimmons were the 12-over synchronized diving winners with 131.90; Griffith and Baylor teammate Lyla Schenk were second.

Golf

» Even with a 74 on Saturday and a final-round 73 on Sunday, Jonathan Keppler of Marietta won the 98th Georgia Amateur Championship at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek by three strokes. His 72-hole total at the Roswell course was 7-under-par 281. Ansley club champion Timothy Schaetzel of Atlanta was the runner-up. Two-time champion David Noll Jr. of Dalton, Lee University player Scott Odell of Claxton and Blairsville teenager Beck Burnette tied for 28th at 298.

» Jack Uselton of Tullahoma joined fellow college junior Will Brooks of Cookeville in winning the Tennessee Four-Ball Championship with a 2-and-1 victory Friday over 2016 champions Ryan Greer and Jack Smith of Knoxville at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville. Five rounds of match play produced the first Tennessee Golf Association title for both Uselton and Brooks, longtime friends who are Ohio Valley Conference rivals at Belmont and Tennessee Tech, but Uselton's father, Clay, won state four-balls with James McCord in 1999 and 2003. Greer was a runner-up in the second of those.
