Frost wins way to Classic

Jonathan Frost played 18 holes of golf on Sunday morning at Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.

He lasted long enough to play nine holes at Black Creek Club and win the Children's Hospital Classic Shoot-Out in the afternoon.

Frost outlasted club champions -- or a representative -- from each of the Chattanooga District Golf Association clubs in a last-man-standing format.

The victory earned Frost tickets to the Nationwide Tour event to be played Oct. 6-10 and a spot in the pro-am tournament where he will be paired with a golfer trying to earn his way on to the PGA Tour.

"I could be playing with the next Rickie Fowler," said Frost, the club champion at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club. "I played in the 10 o'clock group this morning and those guys got me motivated to come out here and win."

Frost beat Brendan Wilson, the reigning WindStone Golf Club champion, on the final hole when Wilson hit his tee shot out of bounds to the right.

"This was fun, and it's kind of like match play," Wilson said. "I blew that lost shot right and that's my miss. But it was still a real cool day. I can't think of many cities that would do this."

Frost earned the victory, tickets to the tournament and a special round of golf, by scoring a birdie on three straight holes.

"The first couple of holes you get by with a par, then you need to start making birdies," said Frost. "It was a lot of fun because I knew most of the people playing and we could rib each other.

"Being able to play in the pro-am is icing on the cake."
