The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's basketball team is ranked No. 2 among the nation's mid-major programs by CollegeInsider.com. The Mocs (17-3), who got two votes in the Associated Press overall Top 25 this week, trail only Gonzaga in the mid-major Top 25 released Tuesday. The Bulldogs got 25 first-place votes and 763 points in the balloting, compared to 724 for UTC, 699 for San Diego, 646 for Bowling Green and 636 for No. 5 Wichita State, which got six first-place votes. UTC, 9-0 in the Southern Conference, plays Saturday at noon at Davidson (10-10, 7-2).
• The basketball doubleheaders scheduled Wednesday evening for Covenant, Bryan and Tennessee Wesleyan colleges all were postponed because of continued icy road conditions, and Lee University's games scheduled for tonight at West Florida in Pensacola also is off. Makeups for Lee's and Covenant's games will be announced later, but the Bryan teams' visit to Point University has been reset for Monday. Wesleyan will host Truett-McConnell in "Blue Out' games tonight at 5:30 and 7:30; Dalton State's home game Wednesday against Life University already was rescheduled for tonight at 7.
Golf
• UTC freshman golfer Ewan Scott is playing Friday through Sunday in the prestigious Jones Cup tournament at Sea Island, Ga. The 54-hole event will be held at the Ocean Forest Golf Club. "Ewan had to qualify for the event and earned his way in," Mocs coach Mark Guhne said in a school release."It was a tough field to get into, and he played up to the challenge. ... It's a really hard golf course and a great test for a championship." Scott, who is from St. Andrews, Scotland, gives UTC representation in the Jones Cup for the fifth time in six years, following All-Americans Jonathan Hodge (2009) and Stephan Jaeger (2011-12), U.S. Amateur champion Steven Fox (2011, '13) and Liam Johnston (2013).
Track & Field
• Lee University's Emmanuel Kipchumba was named the National Christian College Athletic Association men's indoor track student-athlete of the week for his second-place finish in the 800-meter run in the Emory Crossplex Invitational meet last weekend. Kipchumba finished 15 hundredths of a second behind the winner from Furman University. He already had qualified for the NCCAA national meet, but his 1:55.12 in Atlanta lowered his qualifying time by two seconds, and it is the fastest NCCAA time so far this season.
Baseball
• The Atlanta Braves Country Caravan stops scheduled for today in Rome and Hixson have been canceled because of the road conditions. The Hixson visit was going to be held at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store on Highway 153.
