Recent Rhea County High School graduate Gloria Pascual has signed a letter of intent to join the Dalton State College cross country program.

Pascual, 19, ran three times in the TSSAA state meet and has run five kilometers as fast as 19 minutes, 59 seconds. In track she had best times of 5:30 for 1600 meters and 2:28 for 800 meters. And through a joint-enrollment program, she already has 12 hours of college credit through Chattanooga State.

"I want to be a college athlete, and Dalton State is the perfect size and location," she said in a DSC release. "Dalton is close to home, and Coach [Margie] Bruner has welcomed me. I can tell she will help me in both running and as a student." Rhea coach Steffan Holder said Pascual had "multiple" other offers.

"Gloria is a natural athlete who split her time between soccer and cross country in the fall," Holder added. "She worked hard, basically on her own, to get to the [2013 state meet] as an individual."
